One result of the Covid-19 pandemic is that singers like me are not doing our usual job and so our ‘instruments’ can get rusty! It is hard to motivate yourself to practise when you have no concerts or other singing work on the horizon!
I have been catching up with some old friends over recent weeks and this has led to a bit of reminiscing and nostalgic looks back at work we have done together. As a consequence I dug out some old CDs to share with Stephen Hill of the Stephen Hill Singers (who got me into the concert and session singing world!) One was of a concert recorded in the mid 90s for BBC Radio 2 - Celebrating The Musicals - and the first track on the album, Not Since Nineva from Kismet gave me a little inspiration to get practising!! The recording sounds very exciting! There was a lot of nervous energy in the room I think!
I haven’t sung this song for many years and it’s hard and so today I started the process of getting it back in my voice! Lots of scales and arpeggios for me!
